Are you wanting to sell on eBay? Are you ready to get in on the $60 billion dollar marketplace and carve out a chunk of that cash for yourself? If you are, that’s awesome, but how are you going to find the products to sell?
That’s likely the most common question that comes up for new eBay sellers. You’ve gotta have something to sell. No products, no sales. No sales, no business, right?
Many people get stuck here, but it doesn’t have to be hard.
When you have an idea of what you want to sell on eBay, you need to know that there are a couple of manufacturers selling those products. Let’s name it WidgetX.
Perhaps you can find WidgetX in online stores, retail stores, or catalogs. No matter where you can buy it today, you don’t want to start at the retail end of the supply chain. The higher up you are on the supply chain, the better prices you are going to get. If the top of the supply chain is the manufacturer, that is where the best prices are going to be.
Getting a hold of the manufacturer and finding their authorized wholesalers is what you need to do. Aside from a direct phone call, the best way to get a hold of the manufacturer is to go to a trade show. Trade shows are the best place for retailers and manufacturers to get together, and are perfect for you to make some deals for your eBay business.
What you will want to do first is find out which trade show is involved for your industry. Selling garden supplies? Look online for a gardening trade show in your area. Selling consumer electronics? Check out the Consumer Electronics Show.
It is a little tricky getting into a trade show. You have to make sure you have the paperwork filled out with your government and your eBay business registered. You have to be able to prove that you are a real business. If you can’t prove this at the door, they probably won’t let you in.
Once you’re inside though, you have a gold mine of suppliers. New product ideas will be all around you. Talk to suppliers, get business cards and contact information. Make some deals for selling products and you’ll have an endless supply of products to sell on eBay.
