There are those of us left that enjoy buying actual books and building a personal library. If you are one of us, you will be interested in how to save money on books. Here are some suggestions.
Some of us just want to collect. We won’t look at reprints, second editions nor do we care too much about paperbacks. Those that are like that may not find the best deal, but they will be happy with their hobby.
You can still find some very small book stores in this country where you can find great deals. They may not have the best prices to begin with, but know the owner and you will get good bargains.
Library will sometimes offload old books, or books that no one borrows for a long period of time. These usually represent great prices as long as you don’t care about the quality too much.
If you insist on collecting only new books, you may find prices are reduced when a book first appears.
Library is a great way to save, so check it out before you have to go and spend all your money on books that you will never reread.
Certain stores or outlets do not cut the dust jacket or mark the edges of remaindered books, which are sold at a fraction of the original price. Even first editions can turn up in remainder bins.
Free shipping is the only reason why you should buy from an online retailer. If the cost is the same, why not support the local stores by buying it there? That way, you can always take a look at the book first.
Those that joined a book club always tell me how great they are. If you are looking for good deals, then give them a chance and try to join one.
Online auctions can be a good place to buy books as well, but make sure it’s the exact same thing as the copy you see at a local store. Books may have many different versions that look similar on the screen.
